The upcoming release of Omron Corp.'s G9EN dc power relay is the world’s smallest and lightest high-capacity dc power relay of its class, claims the company. Main applications for the device include main relays and precharge relays for vehicles with high-voltage batteries such as hybrid and electric vehicles (in battery disconnect units) and chargers, feeders, and accessories for electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid cars. The relay is 50% smaller and lighter than the company's previous comparable relays due to the use of newly developed proprietary sealing technologies and new magnetic control methods. With its 50% reduction in volume—28 x 40 x 50 mm (1.10 x 1.57 x 1.96 in)—and mass—140 g (4.9 oz)—compared with previous Omron models in the same product class, the G9EN also offers a nonpolarized contact circuit (contact terminal). This contributes not only to device downsizing and weight reduction but also makes wiring and mounting simpler. For more information, visit http://www.omron.com/ecb/products/pry.
